Soooo as per the updated release date post, I’m pushing the release date for SPITFIRE SUCKERPUNCH.
It will now be out on MONDAY SEPT 28TH.
But to hold you over until then, here’s CHAPTER ONE, for your reading pleasure 🙂
So this book is finally getting a release date. It’s been so hard. I feel like you guys know my struggle, so I won’t talk about it anymore. But can I just say how much I love Shay and Tate? I truly do love them, even though telling their story made me want to pull my hair out at times. Writing has been such a bitch to me lately but I love it and I will gladly wade through the shitty times to get to a day like today, where I can finally announce a book’s release date.
So without further ado:
SPITFIRE SUCKERPUNCH will be released on September 24th, 2015.
Yes, folks, that’s this year not next year.
Anyway, I’ll be back tomorrow with an excerpt and I’ll be on social media soon with some ads and all that good stuff.
I hope you’re all looking forward to it!
So you guys are probably going to hate me a bit, but to give my beta readers a bit more time with the book, I’m pushing the release date to MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH. I know, I really debated about doing this, but I think it’s for the best. I want to make sure this book is awesome, especially since I spent so much damn time on it!
So I will let you all know when it’s up. Thanks so much for all of the support!! I love all of you 🙂
I’ve been away for a bit and I know a lot of you readers are getting antsy for my next books. Believe me, I am too. Unfortunately, as I’ve documented on this blog, this past year has not been easy for me. I’ve had a bad case of writer’s block that I just can’t seem to shake. Through it all, I’ve been writing everyday, although not as much as I need to. Spitfire Suckerpunch has been as much of a bear to deal with as its predecessor. It’s taking a long time to finish and it’s also my longest book to date. Every time I think I’m close to finishing, another plot issue pops up.
But the good news is that I will finish this book. That is my current mantra. It WILL get done and I WILL move on to the next.
I currently have about four other books that are in various stages of completion as well. After Spitfire is done, I will move on to those. I am definitely planning to make the second half of my writing year better than my first. So without further ado, here is my tentative new release schedule:
Late August: Spitfire Suckerpunch
Late September: Dark Erotica release
October: Parts 2 and 3 of A Devil Named Dixon.
November: Part 4 of A Devil Named Dixon
December: Kiss of Life
Thanks to all of YOU for your patience. I promise I’m thinking of you guys every time I sit down to write 🙂
Hi all! Happy Friday!
Now I know you are all looking forward to book 2 in my House of Pain series. If you still haven’t read the first one (STONE COLD KNOCKOUT) then you need to get on it before the sequel comes out… just sayin’ 🙂
I don’t have an official release date yet, but it’s coming super soon. So until then, here’s the smexy cover to hold you over!
Hello lovely readers!
I have a little secret… I’ve been working hard on SPITFIRE SUCKERPUNCH (House of Pain #2) and it’s going to be out soon! Woot!
Here’s a short synopsis as a reminder:
Life is finally starting to go Tate Grayson’s way. His promotion to sergeant with the NYPD comes through just as he has a steady girlfriend for the first time in years. He’s finally come to peace with his painful past and has accepted his place in Big Jimmy Domino’s rag tag family of outcasts. Life is good. But the shy, not-so-gentle giant has no idea that a sexy spitfire from his past is about to reappear and punch a big messy hole right through his quiet existence.
Growing up in Harlem, Shay ‘Sugar’ Spears was taught to never trust the police. Why she ever thought she could trust the big blonde cop with the shy smile, she’ll never know. The joke was on her when he betrayed her trust and she went to prison for six long years. Now that she’s finally free, she’s looking for a little old-fashioned revenge. Tate may be irresistible, but there’s no way in hell Shay is going to let him get away with what he did to her. She’s on a mission to make him just as miserable as she is.
But strangely enough, every time Shay looks at Tate, all of her plotting and scheming becomes less about making him pay and more about making him hers…
I don’t have the exact release date yet, but I’ll let you know when I do. I’ll also be revealing the cover later this week.
Are you excited? I hope you’re looking forward to reading Shay and Tate’s story!
I’ve decided to try something new 🙂
If you’ve been following this blog or my FB page, then you’ll know that through the end of 2014, I was working my way through some creative issues. I was blocked for most of October and November, and then the holidays took up all my brain-space in December. But the important thing is I’m out of the woods.
I have a few things on the slate for the beginning half of the year. I’m working hard on not pressuring or over-extending myself, because I think that was part of my problem. After the unexpected success of my dark erotica book, I hit a creative low right when I wanted to finish a lot of projects. It’s been very frustrating for me and I’m sure for you guys too!
Now that I’m back on track, I’d like to announce that I will release A DEVIL NAMED DIXON 1 (DIRTY ROTTEN DIXONS VOL I) on Amazon on Friday, March 27th! Woot.
With this release, I’ve decided to try a new format.
Last year, I started reading a couple of serials and I really enjoyed them. It’s not for everyone, but I think the romantic crime thriller plot of DEVIL will work well in this format. The way ebook sales are going these days, I’m willing to experiment and see what will ultimately work for me to gain new readership as well as keep my current readers happy. I already have two novellas and four full-length novels out under my Lavender Parker mantle, so I think now is a good time to try something new.
All four installments of the A DEVIL NAMED DIXON serial will be around 75-85 pages and 99 cents. In the end, that will add up to around $3.99, the price I was going to charge for a full-length novel anyway. After parts 1-4 of A DEVIL NAMED DIXON are complete, then I’ll make a decision on how to release the second volume in the series. I may continue on in the serial format or I may release it as a full-length novel.
I’m excited! I hope you guys are too 🙂
Just wanted to let you know that FLOWER IN THE DESERT is now available as an audiobook. I worked with a great narrator, Mari Edwards, and I really think the production turned out awesome.
If audiobooks are your thing, feel free to check it out 🙂
This is going to be a totally random post… so bear with me 🙂
I was putzing around HBOGo the other night, trying to find a new and different movie to watch. My only real criteria was that it had to be a romance, of course, because duh. Anyway, I came across the 1976 Barbra Streisand movie A Star is Born. I haven’t seen many of Streisand’s movies, but the first half of The Way We Were is one of my favorites, mostly for Bab’s performance as a strong-willed, charismatic woman who is determined to get her man (the second half gets a little melodramatic and ridiculous–not in the good way).
I settled on A Star is Born and was immediately drawn into the movie based on the sheer power of Bab’s performance. However as the movie went on, I began to really love the way that Babs and her bad boy lover (Kris Kristofferson) interacted. You can really SEE the way they fall in love and worked together as a couple, despite their differences and his self-destructive behavior. They really know each other and are intuitive about why they act the way they do. There’s no silly misunderstandings or miscommunications. Babs is a ride-or-die kind of chick with her man and I really love that in my heroines (in case you couldn’t guess).
As I watched, I started to think about some of my favorite movie/TV couples that have inspired my writing. So, long story short, here’s a list of some of my most influential couples!
Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice: This is an obvious choice. I love the witty banter. I love that both characters are flawed. I love that both characters learn to accept and understand each others’ flaws. I love that Elizabeth is strong-willed, but through Darcy, learns to not be so judgmental. The book is great, but really, any movie/TV adaptation is all about the chemistry between the main actors. My favorite version is the 6-hour A&E mini-series, which is a great way to kill a Sunday, but the Keira Knightly version is also lovely and she and Matthew Macfayden, who plays Darcy, have killer on-screen chemistry.
Luther and Alice, Luther: If you guys are sleeping on the BBC show Luther, you should find it on Netflix and give it a watch. The interactions between psychopathic Alice and rage-aholic cop Luther (played by scrumptious Idris Elba) make the show worth watching. She’s cunning and smart, but so is he, and they have a fun cat and mouse game throughout the first season. She’s always in his ear, begging him to step over the line and join her on the dark side. You watch their relationship develop from enemies to allies to… something more. It’s so fun to watch actors who have such great chemistry play off of each other.
Noni and Kaz, Beyond the Lights: This movie is new (it just came out a few months ago) but it has a great, believable portrayal of a relationship between a Beyonce-esque singer and a cop with political ambitions. The actors are amazing here and the story is very low-key at times, despite the subject matter. The relationship feels organic and never forced. A great scene to watch is when Kaz convinces Noni to sing karaoke in Mexico. Pretty much all the scenes in Mexico are awesome.
Starbuck and Apollo, BattleStar Galactica: This couple is super dysfunctional, but these two actors ooze sexual chemistry. Starbuck is an alpha woman and Apollo is an alpha with a beta streak, so they butt heads often. Things don’t end happily for these two, and they tend to be a hot mess, but their relationship is deep and they really do know and love each other. All of the relationships on this show are very well drawn, but to me, this one really carried most of the emotional backbone of the series.
Baby and Johnny, Dirty Dancing: Another obvious choice LOL. Do I really need to say much about them? IMO the scene that best shows Baby and Johnny’s connection is a small scene right after they see each other for the first time after they have sex. Both Baby and Johnny are awkward after their first night, because neither wants the other to regret it. Johnny acts brusquely towards her and she simply calls out his name. He turns around and, after a moment, smiles at her, and she smiles back. All is right with the world. Such a little thing but such a big moment. Love it.
Do Min Joon and Chun Song Yi, You Who Came From the Stars: I love this Korean drama with the fire of a thousand suns. It follows an alien who’s been stuck on earth for 400 years and the hot mess of an actress who moves in next door to him. It can be funny one moment and heart-wrenching the next, and the actors play off of each other so well. I love their banter! Do Min Joon is a cold unemotional alien (with a sad back story) who slowly learns to love the wacky, flawed Chun Song Yi. The character of Song Yi (and the actress who plays her) really makes this show worthwhile. She’s an anti-heroine, but has many redeeming traits. She always stays true to herself and her own sense of honor. It’s on Hulu with subtitles, y’all. No excuse not to watch it.
Beecher and Keller, OZ: This relationship is in no way healthy or functional, but man if it didn’t leave an impression on me! These two men love each other but, for the most of the series, are hell-bent on destroying each other. Watching their relationship unfold was like a train wreck, but it still sticks with me, all these years later. Another memorable (and unhealthy) relationship on this show was between O’Reilly and Dr. Nathan.
I’ve prattled on for a long time, so I’ll wrap it up there. These are just some of my all time favorite couples, but there are many more. What are some of yours?
Am I here to talk about more book delays? YES. Am I super sorry that I can’t get my life right and finish Kiss of Life? YES.
But I will say that I’m really trying hard to get it together. The holiday season is my favorite time of year and I like the warm and tinglies I get from reading and writing romance during the hustle and bustle. So despite all of the headaches of holiday shopping and travel, I am pushing forward.
I know what you’re thinking:
But I’m working through my writer’s block (November was a black hole of blockage) and hope to have Kiss of Life out soon. I have, however, pushed A Devil Named Dixon back to 2015, obvs. So I hope all of you will stay with me and just know that Vivica and Niko want their story told just as much as you want to read it. 🙂
Happy holiday season everybody!
As you might know, I planned to release Vivica and Niko’s story this month. As you might not know, some shizz happened and my mind took me creatively in another direction… so I’m pushing Kiss of Life back to the end of November.
This year has been crazy in terms of writing. Other than a ridiculously long break between Kiss of Fire and Flower in the Desert (four months, ugh. Never again), I’ve been releasing a book a month. It’s a fast pace and sometimes I can keep up and sometimes I can’t. Some books come easily (The Burning One) and other books are a fight to the death (Stone Cold Knockout). I’m hoping that Kiss of Life won’t fight me. I’m so excited to have all the St. James gang together in one book!
I’ll admit it – the pressure is stressing me out and it’s kind of frying my brain. Unfortunately, I did it to myself! Next year, there’s no way I’m going to take that long of a break in between releases. It’s haunted me ever since 😦
So look for Kiss of Life in November! I’ll let you know my release date when I have it.
As for those wanting to know my dark erotica pen name… you can PM me on Facebook and I’ll give it to you 🙂
